A shed snake skin

I found this snake skin in my rock garden today and thought it was pretty interesting. The rock garden is in full sun so I often see a garter snake in the area. It's the perfect place for the snake to warm up.

According to Wikipedia, snakes will rub against a rough surface to help remove their skin so this one probably used the patio stones. Another website stated that adult snakes tend to shed their skin roughly once every month but younger snakes will generally shed more frequently than adults.

  1. Wow! That's so neat! I've never seen one in person. Did you touch it?
